The club can only grow by attracting new members, we run recruitment for new trainees at least once each year and we also run Try Dives to attract new recruits

Recruitment Open day - Saturday 6th February 2010
The open day is an ideal opportunity to come and meet the dive team and see the club facilities first hand, come along to Ballyholme Yacht Club club from 10.00am onwards, go to the Contact Us page for details on how to find us!!

Try Dive
The last try dive was in June 2009 at Bangor Leisure Centre pool, Bangor.  If you came along and enjoyed it then go to our Contact Us page if you want to know more!  Thanks to all the instructors who volunteered their time over the two nights.

New Try Dive nights: Dates are 18th and 25th March from 9pm onwards at Bangor Pool - cost per Try Dive is £3.00

What's a Try Dive?

  • Bring a swimsuit and if you have them masks and fins, don't worry if you don't we will supply them.

  • A trained member of the dive team will then brief you on the basic equipment and safety procedures and then at your own pace, accompany you on your first underwater dive using scuba equipment in Bangor Pool, we use the main pool area so the depth is at waist/chest level.

  • It gives you a taster of what it feels like to breath under water and to get you used to the basic equipment, mask fins, etc

  • It is also great fun and will hopefully make you want to continue and gain your first open water dive!
Training

Training will be a mixture of:

  • Classroom based learning
  • Swimming pool exercises
  • Open water diving under supervision

Who Can Join?
Broadly new members fall into two categories:

a) New Entrants
You have no diving qualifications, you may have done a holiday try dive and what to progress further or be totally new, either way you will be assessed by our Training Officer and start as a Trainee Diver in the club.  You will need to be able to swin reasonably well and have no fear of being submerged under water.

b) Crossover Diver
You will already be a qualified diver, either from PADI, BSAC or SAA, so you will hav some diving experience and equipment.  You my need to upgrade some of you skills and each individual will be assessed by ou Training Officer and a plan developed to bring you up to BSAC qualification standard.

Equipment
The club does not hold any equipment for use by trainees, instead the current membership lend their equipment to trainees for all the pool sessions.  Once a trainee reaches the stage of open water diving they will be expected to either purchase or hire their own equipment, link to Dive Equipment list.
